Do you have plans for Labor Day? Whether you’re looking to celebrate the start of a new fall season or you simply want to soak up the final moments of summer, Atlanta is the place to be this holiday weekend.

Decatur Book Festival: A tradition you don’t want to miss! The Decatur Festival (one of the largest book fairs in the country) will be held in downtown Decatur from Friday, August 30th through Sunday, September 1st. Special events are scheduled throughout the weekend, so be sure to check their website for times and details.

Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival: Plan a mini getaway in honor of the holiday and visit Callaway Gardens for their annual Hot Air Balloon Festival. Activities take place all weekend long at this Pine Mountain retreat.

Dragon Con: Don’t be startled if you see some interesting creatures around the city this weekend. Dragon Con will descend on Atlanta this Thursday, August 29th through Monday, September 2nd. Don’t miss the annual (and free) parade that will start off at at 10 am on Saturday morning.

Taste of Soul: A great downtown festival that celebrates music, food and art. The event starts off with a 5k on Saturday, August 30th and the festival will continue on through Sunday evening.

Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game: Football season will kickoff in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium with the Duke facing Alabama at 3:30 pm on Saturday, August 31st.

Art in the Park: A favorite for those looking for a more quiet Labor Day celebration, Marietta’s Art in the Park will run from 10 am – 5 pm Saturday, August 31st through Monday, September 2nd.

Stone Mountain Labor Day Weekend: In addition to numerous other park activities scheduled in honor of the holiday, each laser show will be followed by an extended firework display Saturday, August 31st through Monday, September 2nd.

Noshfest: Noshfest, a celebration of Jewish food and culture, will be held in Marietta on Sunday, September 1st and Monday, September 2nd.

Big Peach Sizzler: Atlanta’s Labor Day Tradition! Taking place on Monday, September 2nd, the Big Peach Sizzler will feature both a 5k and a 10k. The 5k starts at 7 am at the Brookhaven Marta Station and the 10k starts at the Chamblee Station at 7:30 am.

TinyCON: On Saturday, August 31st, The Children’s Museum of Atlanta turns into a TinyCON – a two day” fantasy, science fiction, comics, gaming and technology…just for kids!”
